The growing facility at Moonstone Mushrooms was constructed in the summer of 2018, although our love affair with mushrooms started long before that. Luke DeStefano is a native Rhode Islander and is Moonstone's founder, engineer, and primary cultivator. What began as childhood adventures in the forest slowly matured into a deep appreciation for the mushrooms kingdom, foraging wild edibles, making medicines, and learning about the seemingly limitless ways in which mushrooms contribute to a healthy and regenerative ecosystem.
As we adapt to an ever-changing and increasingly populated world, the ability to grow our own food will be an essential skill in our ability to thrive. While Moonstone Mushrooms shall remain committed to providing the highest quality gourmet mushrooms to Rhode Island's chefs, (as well as our line of medicinal tinctures, teas, and supplements), our overarching vision is to educate and empower local communities to discover the joys of mushroom cultivation at home.
